Public Speaking

On December 16th in the assembly hall at St Flannan’s College, we held our annual public speaking competition. The 2024 participants were (in class order) 1A-Ellie, 1B-Taylo, 1C-Ella, 1D-Ruairi, 1E-Ava, 1F-Sadhbh, 1G- Joe, 1H-Tommy,1I-Charley, 1J-Bob.
Some of the motions put forward were ‘Teachers should/should not be replaced by robots’ and ‘climate change is/is not a real issue for our future’.
The event was presided over by Ms. O’Donoghue and our adjudicators were former vice principal Mr. Mike Mc Inerney, retired teacher Mrs. Mary Keane and current teacher of English, Mr. Benny Duggan. The adjudicators had the difficult task of choosing three winners for first, second, and third place out of the extremely high standards demonstrated by all ten speakers. However, after considered deliberation, three speakers were chosen. First place was awarded to Ruairi, second to Charley, and third to Ellie. When addressing the audience, Mr. Mc Inerney spoke about the value of these such events and complimented all the speakers on achieving such a high standard.
St. Flannan’s College is proud to present the opportunity for students to participate in this event each year and wish to congratulate all winners and participants.
